ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a rule for learning tricky spellings. The rule states that the letter t can change irregular verbs to put them into the past tense (instead of adding the suffix -ed) e.g. slept and felt. Irregular verbs tend not to follow rules. They like to be spelt differently. The chapter presents an exercise for learners to read out loud some irregular past tense verbs ending in ‘t’. It provides clues and pictures for learners to spell some irregular ‘t’ verbs by using the rule. The chapter also includes an activity for the learners to choose five irregular verbs ending in ‘t’ and write five sentences in the past tense.
