ABSTRACT

This chapter asks: why focus on the newly consolidated democracies of sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, East Asia, and Central/Eastern Europe? To answer this question, it, focus on the comparative framework and parameters for comparing the four regions. Next, a mention of case selection and the comparative data and usefulness to the entire research question is highlighted. Finally, issues relating to the different methodological challenges associated with studies of voting behaviour, and the measurement of dependent and independent variables is also discussed.
