ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the major effort to reconceptualize the scope of work for the EdLab. This was an effort to respond to the growing number of projects that arose from individual team member initiative as well as an attempt to keep the EdLab and its activities aligned with the overall direction of the college. A major concern with this shift was how it might be perceived by EdLab team members who had been recruited to work on a more expansive agenda. The chapter explains how the EdLab began the transition from the initial five focal areas on the future of libraries, innovations in online learning, new directions for online publishing, re-imagining schooling, and efficiencies in educational research and moved toward a focus on three major projects intended to involve multiple teams in lab-wide efforts. The three focal projects were: (1) New Learning Times, a new mobile publication covering innovations in education; (2) mSchool a platform to organize all of our tools to support learning, using whatever metaphor enhanced the learning content, and (3) LaunchPad, an ecosystem for EdTech developers with a suite of functions to jump start their efforts in the education sector.
