ABSTRACT

This chapter reports on the evolution of the publishing team in the EdLab. The team grew out of an earlier effort to move the academic journal of the college, the Teachers College Record, online. The team that put the journal online and transformed its editorial office to fully digital operations moved to the library and became the EdLab publishing team by expanding its duties to encompass additional publications. Because the team had created digital publishing platforms earlier, it was able to leverage those platforms to support library publishing without bringing in external systems. This laid the groundwork for a DIY approach to publishing that characterized the work of the publishing team throughout its existence. The publishing team became key to content development and distribution in the library. Their efforts included work on the digital archive, the library website, the AfterEd TV project, library galleries, and the development of a video series in partnership with the EdLab media team. Much of the work of the publishing team came together in a new digital mobile publication, New Learning Times, that provided coverage of new developments in education and technology on a daily basis
