ABSTRACT

The chapter elaborates upon the complex nature of school behavioural systems. The discussion relates to complex systems, their nature and the inherent human obsession with order and predictability. It is posited that the universe presents complexities which are beyond the realms of human predictability, and school systems represent an example of one such complexity. The theories of complexity and chaos are collated with the nature of school systems. The various aspects of school systems are analyzed, and their complex and chaotic nature is discussed. The discourse includes the fractal nature of some aspects of school systems. The discussion further provides a broad contextualization of the complex nature of school systems into areas such as intelligence, and real-life cases are cited to explain and justify the arguments.
