ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author discusses the responsibilities of the supervisor in maintaining a quality assurance (QA) program. He performs quality control (QC) tests on various fluoroscopic imaging equipments, including the image intensifier and television system. In the application of a QA management program to a diagnostic radiology facility, each radiographer is responsible for ensuring that the equipment which they are using is performing in a consistent and satisfactory manner. The supervisor of each facility in which fluoroscopy x-ray procedures are performed shall establish and maintain a QA and QC program. In many fluoroscopic x-ray systems, the exposure rate for a particular examination is established by an automatic brightness control unit to provide an image of adequate brightness on the output screen of the intensifier and on the viewing screen of the television monitor. Many fluoroscopic x-ray units are equipped with an automatic exposure control device for automatic timing of exposure during film recording of the fluoroscopic image.
