ABSTRACT

One was a seemingly benign and kindly young warder who appeared to be helping prisoners to escape. In reality he was murdering them and stashing their bodies up on the pipes in the boiler room. It was planned initially that the character would be a long-term one, taking over the prison as ‘top dog’. But within a very short time something very strange happened, and much of it was a credit to the actor. The show’s producers, the network executives, some of the crew, started to get the creeps whenever this character was on the screen, or even on the studio floor. The reality is that reader may have a plot going around in their head, but it won’t ever become a script until a character takes it over. In other words, until they know who, the how, what, and why have little relevance.
