ABSTRACT

The process of creating public history digital stories alone is a valuable learning experience for the storytellers. Nonetheless, educators realized from the start of the project that they wanted others to share in this unique exploration of local and regional history. This chapter explores some of those engagement opportunities. The premiere serves multiple purposes, including giving students a sense of completion of the course and their projects. In addition, the premiere brings the community into historical societies and, therefore, into communion with each other and their shared history. As with the educational institutions, once the public history digital stories are finalized for sharing, regional history centers can play a major role in disseminating the stories to their community via posting links on their website, creating press releases for the premiere, featuring them on social media, and making space for them to be shared at community-based programming and other channels of communication.
