ABSTRACT
To provide more insight regarding the use of computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools in freelance translation, this chapter discusses the results of a research study conducted on professional translators who are either users or non-users of CAT technology. The study was designed to explore the attitudes and preferences of freelance translators working with various language pairs whose native language is Polish. The chapter outlines the methodology, aims, procedures applied, tools used for data collection and analysis, as well as the limitations of the study. The study aims to show the existing tendencies and mechanisms in the use of CAT tools and explore the reasons for the apparent reluctance towards those tools in the freelance translation market. The study was conducted using the Computer-Assisted Web Interview technique based on a questionnaire, which collected self-reported data. The questions were very basic and job-specific, which served to fortify the dependability of the data.
