ABSTRACT

In the isle of Jambu, in the land of Bharata, there was a country called Magadhe. There was a city called Kakandi in that country. Abhayaghosa was the king. His queen was Abhayamati. They were enjoying the desired sensual pleasures. At that time, a fisher-man was carrying a living tortoise binding its four legs, entrapping its neck with nose-rope and string it. He was coming towards the city. That fisher-man carried the tortoise still living with legs cut. That made the tortoise to suffer great pain and it died. It took birth as the son of the king Abhayaghosa and the queen Abhayamati. They were enjoying desired sensual pleasures. One day the king and the queen were entertaining themselves with enjoyable acts on the upper story of the building. At that time, the king watched the lunar eclipse and realized the momentariness of life and it became the reason for his detachment from worldly life.
