ABSTRACT

Building the Chinese school of the international relations theory has become a mission of this generation to rebuild cultural confidence. However, the critical question is where to start. In the past 40 years, the main achievements were based on the essence of traditional Chinese culture and have been supported by China’s rich diplomatic practices. However, we must discover new perspectives to make a further breakthrough. This chapter suggests that China should first accept the reality that both China and the world are now facing problems of cultural governance. Besides, it should pay more attention to the universality and particularity of Chinese culture, considering its relationship with the world order and the shared value of mankind. In this sense, cultural internationalism may provide new ideas and solutions in fulfilling these tasks.
