ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors analyses 8 induction fallacies defined in books by leading authorities. They give two examples from everyday life and present a set of four dialogues in which Pat states a fallacious argument, Chris provides feedback, and Pat replies with differing levels of grey behavior. A Weak Analogy occurs when a person draws a comparison between two concepts, situations, or things to link them together in an argument, even though the connection between the two is not strong enough to make the case. Often the people add strength to their arguments by referring to respected sources or authorities and explain their positions on the issues they are discussing. “The fallacy of popular appeal occurs when they appeal to popular opinion to gain support for the people conclusion. The most common form is the Bandwagon Approach in which a conclusion is assumed to be true simply because ‘everyone’ believes it or ‘everyone’ is doing it”. .
