ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to the new trend of livestreaming, with special emphasis on the portal Twitch. After a brief introduction to streaming, the chapter continues with an account of possible contextual constraints affecting interaction through livestreaming. Next, possible streamers’ and audience’s motivations for streaming-based interaction are suggested. Then, there is an analysis of the interface, with pragmatic implications depending on whether the platform is accessed through a PC or through a smartphone. The next sections analyse interaction, both between streamer and audience and among the members of the audience. The chapter ends with the proposal of a number of non-propositional effects generated out of livestreaming interactions.
