ABSTRACT

This chapter is about how the Building a Better Behaved School (BABBS) (Galvin et al. 1990) materials were developed and the lessons we have learned from our work in schools in the UK. The chapter will describe the research background to the materials; the contents of BABBS; how the materials were used as the basis of the Positive Behaviour Project in Leeds; the philosophy of this project; the manner in which the project operated in schools; the recommendations to schools which resulted from our work; the evaluation we conducted on our work with schools and the issues raised by this evaluation; and our work generally as a support and change agency working with a whole school to promote better behaviour.
