ABSTRACT

Tivland is a rolling plain sloping from the foothills of the Cameroons and Sonkwala Hills in the south (about 1300 feet, with some hills of 4000 feet above sea level) to the banks of the Benue River (350 feet). Both are in the southern hills and along the Benue and Katsina Ala rivers the country is well-wooded grass land. In the central plains there is little wood and, at the end of a long dry season, water may become scarce. Along the Benue, the low-lying ground is a chain of swamps in the rains and a series of dust bowls during the harmattan.
