As regards quality, bricks were of two main kinds, namely “ place ” and “ stock.” “ Place ” bricks were those turned out of the mould in which they were made on to a flat “ place ” and covered with straw, and so left to harden and dry before being baked or burned. “ Stock ” bricks took their name from the wooden stock board into which the mould constituting the brick earth was placed,
