ABSTRACT
The process of converting the image of an item containing text into the character-based representation of the image. A distinct is often made between optical character recognition (OCR) and image character recognition(ICR). In this sense, optical character recognition indicates a real-time process, with the recognition engine directly receiving input from an optical sensor, while image character recognition indicates that the recognition engine is working from a stored image and is not necessarily operating in real-time.
