ABSTRACT
This a r t i c l e w i l l e x a m i n e t h e Vatican's m e d i a t i o n o f ac e n t u r y - o l d b o r d e r d i s p u t e b e t w e e n A r g e n t i n a a n d C h i l e . To t h e o b s e r v e r , p a r t i c u l a r l y t h e m e d i a t i o n e x p e r t , t h e Vatican's a p p r o a c h w i l l likely a p p e a r i n a d e q u a t e a n d c o n f u s e d . B u t b y first e x p l o r i n g t h e m e d i a t i o n f r o m t h e Vatican's v i e w a n d t h e n f o c u s i n g o n t h e m o s t s i g n i f i c a n t c o n s e q u e n c e o f t h e m e d i a t i o n - a s s u r i n g ap e a c e - ! w i l l a r g u e t h a t t h e Vatican's m e d i a t i o n e f f o r t w a s , i n fact, an o t e w o r t h y s u c c e s s .
