ABSTRACT

In the view of Marx man is not a spirit but a body, and good therefore consists, not in the love of Truth for Its own sake, but in possession of the material wealth which will secure the welfare of the body. After the Bolshevik Revolution their self-government was immediately suppressed, and the Dictatorship forthwith proceeded to replace "bourgeois" by Marxian students and teachers. The October Revolution of 1917 was brought about by the Bolshevik wing of the Social Democratic or Communist Party under the leadership of Lenin, and Lenin was until his illness in 1923 the real ruler of Russia. Under the Bolsheviks therefore the power exercised by the Soviets is in fact exercised, not by people, but by the Communist Party. The principal agents for effecting the object of the Dictatorship are the Secret Police, the chief instrument of Lenin, and after his death "the real power in Russia".
