ABSTRACT

The Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) came into existence in 1992 as a political initiative for economic cooperation when the whole world was going through a tremendous change. By developing economic and trade relations between the Member States in the geography which consists of the Balkans, Caucasus and the Black Sea Littoral States, BSEC aims at contributing to regional and international peace, security, stability and welfare. BSEC has also developed cooperation with the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Trade Organization (WTO) and World Bank. As a regional economic organization, BSEC is not directly involved in peace-keeping and conflict management. It renders its contribution to peace and security through economic cooperation and by means of implementing the so-called "soft" security measures. BSEC serves as a model of cooperation, bringing together countries belonging to different cultures and varying historic experience, through cooperative activities bridging differences and developing common vision for the future of the region.
