ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about preparing for the A level philosophy exam, covering both Paper 1 (Epistemology and Moral Philosophy) and Paper 2 (Metaphysics of God and Metaphysics of Mind). Each paper has two sections. Each section has three types of question. First, there is a 3-mark question that asks philosophy student to define a concept or explain a single philosophical idea or brief argument. Second, there are two 5-mark questions and one 12-mark question; these ask them to explain some philosophical material. For the 5-mark questions, they could be asked to explain a claim, theory or argument, or to compare or contrast two theories. Third, there is one 25-mark open-ended essay question that asks philosophy student to evaluate a philosophical claim. The chapter provides some guidance on how to approach philosophy exams in a way that will help get them the best results they can and highlights examination, understanding the question, revision, and exam technique.
