ABSTRACT

Sexual pleasure, satisfaction, and discrepancies between levels of sexual desire or desired frequency of sexual activity have become important areas of focus in sexuality research. Examining multifaceted sexual desire, and whether the factors that make up sexual desire are different between individuals and/or change across context and time remain interesting directions for future work. The Female Sexual Desire Questionnaire was designed to measure sexual desire among women who are engaged in a heterosexual relationship. It evaluates the psychological and interpersonal factors influencing sexual desire that women view as being central to this experience. Based on factor analytic data, items were eliminated or reworded to measure two dimensions of sexual desire: Dyadic Sexual Desire (interest in behaving sexually with a partner) and Solitary Sexual Desire (interest in behaving sexually by oneself). For each item, respondents are asked to indicate the number that best reflects their thoughts and feelings about their interest in or wish for sexual activity.
