ABSTRACT

This chapter describes outcomes for users which are of significance in the policy and practice context. It is important to note that some of the domains relate to states, while others are change outcomes. The distinction between state and change outcomes has resulted in this chapter being divided into four main sections: destinational outcomes, quality of life at Time I, changes in health status, and quality of life at Time II. The length of time which older users remain in the community before death or transition to institutional care is an important outcome indicator of service effectiveness. The chapter focuses on findings relating to a range of outcomes for Evaluating Care for Elderly People (ECCEP) users and addresses outcomes specifically related to carers. ECCEP users were asked at both Time I and Time II whether they felt they were free to run their own life in the way they wished.
