ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows how individuals face constant change as they move through the course of their careers. It argues that the shifting landscape of work and the constant increases in nonwork pressures bring greater uncertainty into the process. The book also argues that an individuals need to stay vigilant in their career management approaches to respond to these future opportunities, challenges, and demands. Several environmental factors that are influencing career management currently will also present challenges in the future. Although organizational programs and practices can aid it immeasurably, only individuals, with the help of family members, friends, and colleagues, can develop insight into themselves and their environment, become committed to career goals and strategies, and accurately appraise the course of their careers and make necessary adjustments.
