ABSTRACT

It is often helpful to see the full context of the newspaper articles pertinent to kibosh. The London Standard article (November 27, 1834) with its all-important chimney-sweep quote has the December 8, 1832 Figaro in London item about flogging. This chapter presents other relevant newspaper articles. The Lloyd's Weekly newspaper article ('Trade Strike and Prosecution') is a lengthy one, with only two mentions of kybosh and otherwise having no special importance for the topic of this book. The newspaper article (Bell's Life in London, and Sporting Chronicle) is very long, and the author has therefore excerpted two parts. The first one briefly tells about the Seven Dials area of London, and the second contains the incident which included 'kyebosh'. This article supposedly reports London 'dodges' by a firm of builders of hunting kicksies (breeches, trousers).
