ABSTRACT

The 1.5-mile run test provides a simple method for estimating a person’s maximal oxygen consumption rate (VO2 max) by measuring the elapsed time during 1.5 miles of running (or walking). Walking is allowed during this test; however,theobjectiveistocompletethe1.5-miledistanceasquicklyaspos- sible. A faster pace (speed) during the test will result in a lower time to complete the 1.5 miles, and, therefore, a higher predicted VO2 max. The following gender-specific regression equations have been developed 2 to predict VO2 max using body weight (kg) and the 1.5-mile run time (min):
