ABSTRACT
The Social Services Committee will produce its own statement based on that already agreed by the Council, and being a committee of the Council, it cannot include things which would be contrary to the overall intention of that body. To translate this to social care agencies, it is necessary to have a mission statement of people overall aims, together with the principles and values on which the services are to be based. The first — from Wiltshire County Council — is a concise mission statement for all the activities of the County Council, to which would be added subsequently the more specific aims of the Social Services Department. The Council aims to ensure the provision of the highest possible quality of service within the financial resources available. The Council will help and encourage individuals, families, communities and organisations to take responsibility for matters which they can handle satisfactorily themselves.
