ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a practical curriculum for working towards a culture of positive peace in school. It contains up-to-date activities that build on an older and much-used text, Let's Mediate, which was co-written by one of the authors nearly 20 years ago. The chapter also draws on new resources, such as Learning for Peace: a guide to developing outstanding SMSC in your primary school, developed by the West Midlands Quaker Peace Education Project. Students can also be involved in observing and planning. The nature of this work is that students evaluate their own performance and develop strategies to ensure that everyone succeeds. The chapter outlines some activities, many of them games, for developing positive peace in schools via peace-building activities though inclusion, wellbeing and citizenship. Games help reinforce teaching points, mix students up and energise or calm them down. They are central to processes of teaching and learning and are not to be dismissed as a Friday afternoon treat.
