ABSTRACT

The journals one read today generally arrive electronically. There has been enough noise generated over the rapid migration to electronic publishing to deafen all of people. Aggregation has been occurring in the academic publishing world for a while now. Simultaneous with the move toward aggregation of publishing, has been the move toward disaggregation. Commercial journal publishers have attempted to co-opt the open access movement by making articles free to readers by charging the author. This gold open access model allows the author to pay for the privilege of removing the firewall for their publication. These predatory journals will often not have editors or editorial boards, but will have titles sounding like traditional scholarly publications and will promise speedy, inexpensive, and open access publication. Perhaps one just wants more flexibility to do it their way without having to compromise with outsiders who want one to fit their publishing models.
