ABSTRACT

After its foundation in 1949, the People’s Republic of China put forward the policy of following the Soviet Union completely. This was partly due to lack of experience in building a socialist nation; it was also unavoidable in the political climate of the time. As a result, China imitated the practice of the Soviet Union, not only in economic development, but also in all other fields, including education. After several years of experience, some of which was valuable, China nevertheless discovered serious shortcomings and mistakes in the Soviet way. Some of the patterns China had borrowed did not suit Chinese conditions.
