ABSTRACT

There are many stages in the manufacture of an engineering part or component. These include the selection of appropriate materials and processes and the selection of appropriate tools and equipment. You will fi nd plenty of information on how these tasks are performed in the other chapters in the book but now we focus our attention on another important task, namely that of selecting and applying appropriate techniques for marking out the work so that it ensures that the fi nished component conforms fully with its drawing and specifi cation. Paramount in all of this is the ability to be able to make accurate dimensional measurements and transfer these to a workpiece without error. This chapter shows you how it’s done.
