ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses that a variant of Grounded Theory is a useful tool in an organization analysis in which a coupling between systematic qualitative analysis and constructive and creative use of different theoretical frameworks and metaphors provide the necessary insight and understanding of the organization in question. In principle, an organization analysis can be structured on the basis of prevailing theories in organization and management. In short, an organization analysis involves a systematic effort to establish insight into the characteristics of an organization. This kind of insight is in no way reserved for management or organizational development (OD) experts. Local stakeholders need also to develop knowledge and understanding of their own organization. Thus, the professional platform of the organization analysis is shaped by the theoretical perspectives that govern the analysis. Gareth Morgan builds another foundation for analysing organizations. In the book Images of Organization he introduces metaphors as the key to understanding organizations.
