ABSTRACT

The obsession with killing family members is not the only explanation that the series offers for Michael’s violent behavior. It also suggests that his periodic killing sprees coincide with Samhain, a Druid festival that provided the origins for modern Halloween celebrations. In Rob Zombie’s 2007 remake of Halloween, it is suggested that a dysfunctional and aggressive childhood contributed to the character’s violent behavior. Zombie continued to explore the character’s psychological dimension in Halloween II (2009), suggesting that he was encouraged to kill by visions of his dead mother.
