ABSTRACT

Enterprise and development projects do not seek to produce general knowledge about the nature of sports performance or the factors that are associated with success. These projects are no less academic than scientific research projects, but the research conducted is of a much more applied nature. Enterprise projects involve market research about a business idea to develop a product or service. The market research done within enterprise projects is used as the basis of a business plan which is discussed by the student. Development projects differ from enterprise projects in that they evaluate the effectiveness of some product or service rather than making the business case for it. The chapter contains two broad sections: one on enterprise projects and one on development projects. Either project type could be undertaken for a product development task or a service provision. In this chapter, we will use an example of service provision in the discussion of enterprise projects and an example of software development to discuss development projects.
