ABSTRACT

In all these single-w-m arried songs, a social institution (marriage) is viewed as the source o f the heroine’s unhappiness. In ‘Still I Love H im ’ , however, there is a different emphasis. The institution still exists, the heroine still has much o f which to complain, but she has by her side a fleshand-blood com panion - less than perfect, perhaps, but human and therefore capable o f inspiring love in spite o f the institution.
