The author speaks of the twin towers of memory still standing in memory present in absence present in images he search for the twin towers in images to fill a heart-aching absence. People escaping people burned people jumping stairwells blocked firemen going in the smell of burning flesh confusion smoke dust clouds people running terrified faces cloths over noses mouths buildings coming down straight down collapsing straight down we are terrified to see them horrified to see them debris on the ground gaping nothingness but the twin towers remain standing in images in our minds. The nineteen murderers learning to fly in order to die people on the planes men women babies false calm in the buildings miscommunications heroism of firemen ignorance ineptness wrong plans time to get out for some but they didn't know.
