ABSTRACT

The beauty of the natural environment has two sources: one is uncultivated nature, and the other is the human being. Artificial beauty and divine beauty are, however, both of human origins.

Nature constitutes the foundation of the environment. What is nature then? It can be interpreted in two different ways. First, ‘nature’ can refer to organic matter (except human beings), including wild and artifi cially cultivated organisms; and it can also include non-artifi cial minerals. Raised organisms such as domestic animals and transgenic plants are here considered to be natural beings simply because their fundamental characteristics are still determined by nature. Human intervention cannot affect their natural core dimension, although it can exert some infl uence to fulfi l particular human demands. Second, ‘nature’ can also simply mean ‘essential quality’.
