The value of planning the right task and pupils taking an active role in interactions

In this chapter, we discuss the theory and research underpinning the scaffolding framework we introduced in Chapter 1. Compared to the chapters that follow, this chapter is somewhat less practical. You might be tempted to skip this part of the book, but please don’t! Understanding why and how we have developed the framework is important for being able to use it effectively.
