ABSTRACT

The physical security of any property or facility relies very heavily upon locking and access control devices. These devices vary greatly in appearance, as they do in function and application. A lock, regardless of its type, is primarily a delaying device. The degree of delay presented by the lock depends upon its quality of construction and installation, and the skill of the would-be intruder. Access control includes the methods and procedures utilized to provide facility security by restricting and controlling the movement of persons into and/or within a protected area. Both of these technologies have become extremely sophisticated over the last 20 years.
