ABSTRACT

The school in which one work may have a specialist teacher and/or a member of staff who different ways of organising mathematics teaching, drawing takes an overview of the teaching and learning of mathematics across the school. These are sometimes called subject leaders, curriculum leaders or subject coordinators. The role of specialism and creativity produces 'dilemmas' for both the specialist and non-specialist. Chappell writes about dance teachers, though the parallel with any specialist teachers is obvious that the solutions to teacher's dilemmas are about relationship between knowledge and creativity. The specialist can support what Dezuanni and Jetnikoff describe as 'creative pedagogies', where there are innovative and imaginative arrangements made in relation to the curriculum and teaching strategies. There are a number of ways a specialist can work with colleagues on continuing professional development (CPD).
