ABSTRACT

As family therapists we work with people whose personal spaces have been severely violated. In order to create safe spaces for our clients we have to analyze how personal space is created, violated, and restored. Creating a safe space for clients is a necessary condition for successful therapy. Before I describe an intervention that has the goal of helping clients create a safe space in therapy and transferring that into their lives, I will briefly discuss how personal space is created, violated, and how it can be restored.
