ABSTRACT

This Cuban-born writer is best known for his satiric treatment of the Cuban community in Miami, whose language, both English and Spanish, idiosyncracies, and extreme political views he treats with sharp wit. Fernandez's best-known works are La vida es un special (Miami: Universal, 1982 [Life is a Special]), La montana rusa (Houston: Arte Publico Press, 1985 [The Roller Coaster]), and Raining Backwards (Houston: Arte Publico Press, 1988), from which collection our story is taken.
