ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the source data: the Korean People's Oral History Series published by Deep-Rooted Publishing House. It also deals with the strategy of representation in essay format. The source data are composed of 20 books and are very famous among social scientists in Korea because Korean contains accounts of disappearing Korean cultural heritage. Korean language does not have a pronunciation code; the writing system, Hangul, is the same with any pronunciation system. The fourteenth book provides a good example of the Korean language system. All source data contains footnotes that explain old dialects to the contemporary reader. The source data contain numerous dialects and the original editors of the source data annotated with modern expressions. The preservation of dialects is one of the main purposes of the source data. From the sixth book onward, the source data contains an independent section by a Korean language expert explaining the dialect.
