ABSTRACT

This is a residual diagnostic category for disorders of impulse control not elsewhere classified. The essential feature of these disorders is the individual’s failure to resist performing a potentially harmful act. The individual usually has a sense of tension or arousal before committing the act, and a sense of relief or pleasure at the time the act is committed. Other features may or may not be present. These include conscious resistance to the impulse, preplanning, and guilt, regret, or self-reproach after committing the act.https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315820774/fad306a6-9f2f-469b-a373-bfcdd1211b15/content/ifig0110_B.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
