(p. 65) When the Prophet (mappuh) 61 came to Medina, 62 it was inhabited by these three groups:

The Muslims, both immigrants (muhajirun) and supporters (ansar) 63 who formed the great majority of the population.

The infidels of both the Aws and Khazraj tribes who had not embraced Islam and who were the minority of the population.

The Jews, who consisted of four groups: a group who lived in Medina and who were known by the name Banu Qaynaqa c and three other groups who lived outside Medina, Banu An-Nadir, Banu Qurayza and the Jews of Khaybar.
