ABSTRACT

From a production dominantly oriented toward the domestic market, the electronics industry in Mexico has shifted to one mainly directed toward exportation. This change in orientation, of course, implies evolving technological levels and foreign trade balance in this industry, as well as modifications in its participation, and in the industrial development strategies of Mexico as the host country. This chapter will provide some background on the electronics industry in Mexico by describing its development, technological level, foreign trade balance and level of participation within the region of Guadalajara, along with the shift in the industrial development strategy that took place in Mexico.
