ABSTRACT

Over the years 1863–1907, as a result of the reform process set in motion by the Statutes of 1861, the freed serfs passed through successive stages of temporary obligation and the redemption operation. In addition, the government intervened to make minor alterations to the terms of the reform, and brought the process to a slightly premature end in 1907.
