ABSTRACT

Much controversy in our public schools today centers around one word: standards. Some think the standards are too low, some view the standards as too high, some say standards actually "dumb down" education, some say that the standards movement has led to a "test-crazy" environment, and on and on. Standards, however, are only a place to begin for a principal who builds relationships through valuing others, which reminds me of a story I once heard.
