ABSTRACT

Over the years Maslow re-visited the model and his own understanding of people as individuals within society and he refined the theory over several decades, from the 1940’s to the 1980’s. During this time, and subsequent years, the physiological baseline needs remained constant. However, depending on the interpretation of the baseline needs by those that would share Maslow's model, there has been one important element that has gone ‘missing’ from time to time. Maslow considered physiological needs the most important as all the other needs become secondary until these needs are met. One can choose to delete the words people do not like, reproduce Maslow's model and focus on a more contented route, or they can embrace the fact that they are all born as sexual beings and that sexuality is a major part of the baseline of the physiological needs.
