ABSTRACT

This chapter considers three promising areas of innovation in thinking, delivery and organisation for integrated care. All of the home nations have recognised the importance of systems leadership to achieving more integrated care. Leadership is the art of inspiring others to follow a course of action not on the basis that this is mandated by terms of employment but because they are motivated by its underpinning vision and values. Technology is sometimes linked with being a barrier to more integrated care due to the equipment or data within different organisations being unable to connect successfully. Technology is of course advancing continually with new forms providing emerging opportunities for improving communication and coordination. More than ever, people, families and communities expect and need to experience integrated care. This will require continued commitment from national and local governments with associated investment and the bravery to challenge existing silos.
